Music Of The Week - DEV

I actually hated this song when I first heard it. But then it... Just started to grow on me. And there's nekkid hands all over the show in the video makin' it kinda intriguing. The song is called "In The Dark" by American singer, Dev (aka Devin Star Tailes).

Became kind of popular after being sampled on Far East Movement's "Like A G6," and will be releasing her first album "The Night The Sun Came Up" in November 2011.

Check out the dirty hands in the dirty dark!

Kelly Brook's Own Skin

It's that time for another celebrity to do their thing with PETA campaigning against animal cruelty. This time, it's the gorgeous Kelly Brook. Unfortunately... Who on earth airbrushed Ms. Brooke?! Are monkey's really overtaking the planet??

Une Chanel Promenade

During this month, Harrods are holding an exclusive exhibition on the adventures of Chanel!

And what can I say... It was like a pretty little wonderland! The window displays are all Chanel'ed out with their A/W collection, and it gives me a little old English feel to it! And the exhibition itself was like a little enchanted fairytale. You weren't allowed to take photographs in the exhibition which sucked, but I am stealthy... And if you didn't try and take a picture or two, it would just be all wrong!  Here's a little sneaky of what I saw and loved:

Part of the window displays of Harrods. I've also been enticed by dead animals.

Feeling enticed?? More pictures after the jump!

Music Of The Week - Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Totes re-repping Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs for my MOTW here. I gave them love for their song "Trouble" back in July, and here they are with their new song "Garden" in September. Beautiful little whirlwind. Just like the weather. Again, no dinosaurs were spotted in the video unfortunately. Maybe next time?! Who knows:

Whirlwind or not, it's a fabulous end to the summer of 2011 tune. Enjoy!

Music Of The Week - Florence And The Machine

I'm still alive! Sort of...!! The crazy riots luckily didn't get so close to my home town, and although my laptop wasn't looted; it has officially died. Yes, after 5 odd years, she's finally caved in. It's made me kind of sad. And why I've kind of fallen off the face of the earth here.

Borrowing some laptop time, I'm very happy to give everyone FATM's new single "What The Water Gave Me" as my Music Of The Week!

Slow start and working it's way into something beautiful as always. Oh Flo... You make me a happy girl. Enjoy!

Music Of The Week - Warpaint

A growing favourite of mine; Warpaint. The band from Los Angeles formed in 2004, and have started to become pretty popular as well as touring with The XX and festivalling, including Glastonbury of this year! The song I'm pimping out is "Billie Holiday" by the band. It's smooth sultry seduction. Yes, the three S's. A bit of an ode to the fabulous Billie Holiday and taking some lines from Mary Well's "My Guy." Just beautiful.

Music Of The Week - Kreayshawn

Again, I know my posting isn't up to scratch. Been working very hard and lack of time to play makes me a sad little girl.

Nevertheless, I give you my song of the week. It's called "Gucci Gucci" by American singer/songwriter Kreayshawn (aka Natassia Gail Zolot). What can I say? The song is like... Catchy basic bitches, homes. And it totally perked up my journeys to work early in the morning and feeling the eyes of the older gentleman squashing next to me thinking "WTF" and looking over every few seconds. Kinda serves him right for squashing me that morning.

Music Of The Week - SBTRKT

This week's song slightly more upbeat and fun sunshine weather! It's called "Pharaohs", by SBTRKT (aka Aaron Jerome) and features Roses Gabor. SBTRKT is a London producer and musician, and has remixed for many big names such as MIA and Basement Jaxx. Check him out!!

Although he's a DJ, he prefers to stay away from the limelight and keeping his identity a secret! How so? By wearing native masks. Bless.

The song is also from his album "SBTRKT." Enjoy!!

Music Of The Week - Washington

This week's song is slightly more girlie (I am a girl afterall) and floaty yumminess! It comes from a talented Australian musician, Megan Washington. The song is called "How To Tame Lions." Hope it perks you up on this warm fuzzy sunday!

RIP Amy Winehouse

Even though I've been cooped indoors surrounded by boxes and preparing for our grand store opening, news travels fast. Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment in Camden earlier today. The girl had such talent and such a beautiful and amazing voice, it's real a shame to the music industry.

Although police are saying it's unexplained, I'm pretty sure alot of people have guesses on how and why. Amy had a huge problem with drugs and alcohol, and delaying her comebacks again and again. And only recently having been jeered off stage during her first stint of her European tour for forgetting words, slurring and the typical "bad" Amy we've been seeing so much of the past few years. She has also been unwell recently as she's been cancelling promotion and photo shoots for Fred Perry (where she's made collections and models for).

It's such a tradegy that someone so young and talented has passed away; she had so much more to give. But she's joined the 27 club with Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. Strange coincidence? Who knows. May she rest in peace with them all.

In memory of Ms. Amy Winehouse, some of my favourites:

From the album "Frank," Stronger Than Me, In My Bed and Take The Box

And from "Back To Black," You Know I'm No Good and Back To Black

Music Of The Week - Little Dragon

This week's song was a bit of a struggle. I  made a bunch of updates for my playlist to take up to Birmingham for my training (as mentioned in my previous post). I'm not gonna lie, there were some good choices on there. But one that kept me going back to it the most was a song called "Ritual Union" by a Sweish electro band called Little Dragon.

It's a gorgeous little song, and they also perfomed at Glastonbury this year! Fancy!

The song is off of the album with the same name out later this year. A non-live version of the song is here below. Enjoy!!

When A Londoner Visits Birmingham

On Monday 11th July, a group of 20 people who have never met before gathered at Euston train station to begin their journey to Birmingham. Why, I hear you say. For training at a new store opening we've all been hired for. Where, I hear you say. A company called Forever 21!

Now, I know some Brits haven't heard of the company, sohere's a quick brief: Forever 21 is a clothing store found in California by a (South) Korean couple in 1984. The popularity is growing, and the company is expanding rapidly and internationally. We went to Birmingham for training as it's the first store in the U.K. closest to London.

Just outside Birmingham Bullring Shopping Centre. And... there of course, is a bull. Symbolism and all that. Standard.

Underground! Although we weren't in London anymore, there was a little bit of our heart in Birmingham. The Village was where alot of drag, drinking, dancing and karaoke singing went down. The hangover and work the next day wasn't the best of times, though.

Sunday 10 July 2011

Music Of The Week - Maverick Sabre

Song for the week is called "Let Me Go" by British artist Maverick Sabre. Originally from Hackney (with a move to Ireland and back to London to work on his music bizz), Maverick Sabre is someone to look out for, methinks! He's got this wonderfully enticing voice and has also worked with the likes of Professor Green, Chase and Status and Wretch 32!

The video is sorta like one of those alter ego things. Maybe because Maverick Sabre has such an adorbz baby face he's got a rugged dark handsome man in it? Who knows. Oh. And it shows the other dark side of Las Vegas. Unfortunately it's a little been there done that, but watchable, nonetheless.

Chanel Is Not A Robot

How adorable is this window display at Selfridges (London) advertising the new Chanel range? Being creative with the variey of make up, brushes and media screen:

Loving the long super model dancing legs with little top hat!

And this looks like some female friendly version of Transformers. Well, it's enticing me more than Spielberg's smasher.

Sunday 3 July 2011

Music Of The Week - Buraka Som Sistema

This week's song is quite fitting for a sunday. It's called "Hangover (BaBaBa)" by a Portuguese group, Buraka Som Sistema. They "specialise" in fusing techno beats with African kuduro and were formed together in 2006. They always make me get on my feet, and there's a fiesty little girl who looks super adorbz in the video that it kinda makes you lolz.

The video isn't so much NSFW but there's a few... dare I say, "naughty" clips. So just be a bit careful the raunchiness doesn't get you in trouble and people come at you with holy water.

Glastonbury 2011 Highlights

Welp, I was one of those unfortunate souls who didn't manage to snag myself a ticket to Glasto this year, and I have to say... I am in such awe of those bitches who managed to go.

It may be all fun and games but unfortuinately a sad incident did happen this year; friend and political ally to Nick Cameron, Christopher Shale passed away at the venue. He was missing and found in one of the toliets. Eep!

But moving back onto the festival itself, I have spent several hours of my life the past few days watching several highlights and loving every minute of what I was watching!! Despite the weather being typically British and bi-polar, my friends who went all had an immense time. What more fun could you have? wellies, rain macks, sunglasses, mud, camping, camp fires, beer and live bands?! All in one huge arena!!

Some of my favourite bands and music to my ears (and eyes) were:

  •  Biffy Clyro (half nekkid Biffy! Need a girl say more...??)
  • Ed Sheeran (singing "A Team" which was a MOTW in a previous post!)
  • Jessie J (although slightly dissapointed with her album, that girl can belt out a song or two!)
  • Janelle Monae
  • Pendulum (bringing back memories of my youth and how I used to rave)
  • Tinie Tempah (while some say he's not amazual, he always makes me want to get up on my feet)
  • Warpaint (singing "Undertow")
And then... Beyonce happened. I have to admit, I'm not a massive B-girl fan. But she was really stunning during her performance. And look at that body and shimmer shimmer outfit working the Pyramid stage!!

There was definately a real something about her. I have to say Beyonce.. Well done, you were definately awesome! Catch Beyonce's Glasto experience highlight here!

Now to find my wellies in preparation for next year...

Music Of The Week - Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Oops. I've let myself down and neglected my little blog by juggling too many things currently in my life. And watching all the highlights of festivals I'm envious of and jealous I didn't manage to snag a ticket or two to. Sorry blog. I'll make it up to you with this song I've had on my playlist for weeks, though.

It's called "Trouble" by a group called Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs from Oxford. Quirky little song, quirky little video. Unfortunately there's no dinosaurs that I saw in the video, but hope you guys find it enjoyable:

Music Of The Week - Wolfgang Gartner

I know I am lacking in posts lately. It's been very busy in the house and my little shoe life due to a happy occasion that was my brother's wedding! It was a beautiful little day despite the rain (and mud getting caught in pretty shoes and heels) and I'm so happy for them.

My MOTW is posted early as although the wedding is done, the celebrations are not! We have another day of doing a traditional ceremony tomorrow to celebrate.

This week's song is called "Illmerica" by American producer/DJ, Wolfgang Gartner (aka Joey Youngman). He's also remixed and mingled with the likes of Will.I.Am, Timbaland, Tiesto and other big guns! The video's... Kinda interesting! It's like a crazy history lesson and if it was, it would've definately made school so much more interesting:

Enjoy! I need to get some beauty sleep and prep myself for another day of eating and drinking.

Sunday 5 June 2011

Music Of The Week - Skunk Anansie

I used to love love love Skunk Anansie when I was younger. A London band formed in 1994, disbanded in 2001 and reformed again in 2009. Maybe I was just an angsty child, but I've had a re-found love for Skin and the band after feeling nostalgic hearing some old favourites the other day! Their current single is "God Loves Only You" and there's something quite "poetic" about it:

And some old favourites... "Secretly"

And an absolute old favourite "100 Ways To Be A Good Girl"

Hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do and did!

Chanel Stole My Work!

So here I am flicking through 125 Magazine and there's a few pages on Chanel's new look. Well! I have to say... It's a little close to home! For those who know me and some of my work, you will understand. For others that haven't seen it, I will explain.

Welp, this is Chanel's new look:

I do actually like the colour pallete on the eye make up and I always like dark coloured clothing. But wait! I think a young lady may of done something similar on a shoot late 2009 and an entry for ELLE magazine's competition...

See the similarities!? I mean... All they had to do was ask. And hire me and the team I worked with that day.

Now this is the problem; do I ring up the big guns at Chanel and demand something, or suck up and ask for a job and force them to love me?

Sunday 29 May 2011

Music Of The Week - Foster The People

This week's song is called "Pumped Up Kicks" by an L.A. based trio, Foster The People. It's a nice chilled little jam. The guys in the band are also pretty cute, so pay attention to the video! It's something about men and instruments.... Ooo. I could spread them on a cracker.

Umm, I mean, here's their video. Enjoy!!

Fan It Out

Having a look around and stopped for a while to look at Zara (Oxford Street)'s window display. They always seem to make it look so quirky and fun. Loving the mixed giesha inspired look with clipper girl and faceless spike dude who looks likes a little like the Statue of Liberty gone dark.

Loving the colour clash (which works well together) with patches of print in both outfits. I also want those tights on clipper girl. And long mermaid hairs like clipper girl.

Then on the other window display was monocrome punk fest!

Nice use of the romantic whites that are in this season, and loving the zebra printed mannequins. I'm a sucker for prints.

And totally silly but cute fake puppies! I want this cage for my room (not for dog caging purposes, though).

Sunday 22 May 2011

Music Of The Week - Various Cruelties

I've been slacking a bit with posts recently... Things have been a little busy over here and preparing for the Rapture that was meant to happen yesterday and all that. Seeing as we're all alive, here's my music of the week. Various Cruelties are a newly put together London band. Although they're still fresh, they've already supported Mumford and Sons, The Vaccines and Villagers.

The song is called "Neon Truth." Enjoy!!

Sunday 15 May 2011

Music Of The Week - Peaches

Peaches (aka Merrill Beth Nisker) is such an immense character. I feel as though she's slightly underrated for what she does, so I'm pimping her out a little this week. She's finally managed to create a video for each song off of her 2009 album I Feel Cream and latest video is for a song called "Mud."

The video is also pretty self explanatory; Peaches is being Peaches with her dirty beats in... Well, mud. Enjoy:

What They Wore: Work Edition

Sometimes I think that I'm quite a fortunate "fashionista"; I get to wear whatever I want each day at work and there's not really such a thing as uniform. I can even roll out of bed and throw on my battered old converses, and last night's clothes that's still on the floor and not get judged (well, maybe a little. You know, until I redeem myself). I love the variety of people I work with and everyone dresses in their own little way!

My favourites today:

Carrying a casual English heritage look here! Loving the buttoned up shirt, casual chinos and the side parting.

The monocrome queen! Simple yet stylish. Cute ruffles on the sandles, too. Well done for painting those little toes coming out for sunshine play!

And this young lady always (effortlessly) gets it right! Loving the casual look and rolled up jeans. Ooo the frappaccino is looking at me. Might need one tomorrow.

What Was I Thinking? Flow With The White

Welp, today I decided to show some flesh seeing it was warm again enough to. Hopefully not too much that someone alerted the church elders. I've not had any holy water thrown on me, so I think we're alright!

(Long Vest: TopShop, Floral Waistcoat: TopShop, Leggings: TopsShop, Pumps: Schuh, Sunglasses: H&M)

Music Of The Week - Azari & III

So here is this week's music! It's called "Hungry For The Power" by a Canadian indie (and can I say electro??) group Azari & III. I'm loving the dirty little beats in it.

The video is... Quite interesting! I would also like to say it's probably NSFW, and if you're not so good with some blood, I probably would try not to watch it. Intrigued...? You should be!

GaGa Is My Religion

Lady GaGa released the video of the new song "Judas" a few days ago. And I'm not gonna lie, I was really excited and my pants tingled muchly. I quite enjoyed the video, and of course, there's already a stir of controversy and all that jazz in regards to the video, religion and anything else people can throw at you.

Personally, I didn't think that far into it. There are relations to several religious bits and such, but come on! The song is already called Judas, and listen to the lyrics! Anyway, here's some stills of my favourite bits:

I really like this shot, I'm not sure why! Is it the jewels, is it Jesus, is it the motorbike?! I really like GaGa's simple bold eye make up, which mirrors a little of the "Eye of Horus."

Lady GaGa is the modern Sacred Heart?? You can partially see the heart (above) and wearing the blue hooded cap, while she's rolling with her homes, Peter.

I also heart the little golden gun! Secret weapon with a lipstick.

Ah, so much GaGa goodness! For anyone that hasn't seen it yet; shame on you!! But, I'm gonna help you out and show it below. Enjoy!!

The Bohemian Twist

I really like these clashing pieces in Vogue's June issue. The guys at Vogue always know how to make clashing look great and actually decent. These are some of my favourite pieces:

Sunday 1 May 2011

Music Of The Week - Ed Sheeran

It was a tough choice this week, but I stuck with my guns and my Music Of The Week is called "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran. He's a British singer/songwriter and has such a lovely tone in his voice! He's mingled with the likes of Jamie Foxx, Example and Just Jack.

The video and lyrics are a little sadface, but I think it's such a beautiful little song. Moral of the story - stay away from drugs!

Saturday 30 April 2011

The Fairytale Princess

In keeping with the same topic as my previous post, this is about wedding. If you're anti-wedding in any way, look away now.

Disney have teamed up with Alfred Angelo bringing classic Disney princess dreams to real life. The collection of seven is based on several Disney princesses, such as Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and a few others.

And each dress has the elements to each princess character! Can you guess which is which? Some of these dresses aren't what I would called amazing, but a few of them are definately simplistically elegant and stylish. I'm not of being ashamed I still love watching Disney films; they always cheer me up. Especially when I'm sick or in a foul mood. When I was young, one of my "ambitions" was to be a princess. And now I can... Once I save up for it!

The Princess Didn't Need A Frog

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past several months, you should be aware that there was a huge ceromony in celebration of a Royal Wedding! The marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton! Now I didn't really watch too much of it, apart from seeing what people wore (and lolzing at Phillip Schofield's very detailed decriptions of people's outfits... He must of had a script!) and of course... What dress the bride wore and who it was designed by!

Kate Middleton wore a gorgeous elegant dress designed by the fabulous (Sarah Burton at) Alexander McQueen:

Absolutely amazual! While watching some of the coverage, there were people saying how she should've gone more out there and all this malarky but leave the girl alone. It's her own wedding and I thought she looked so elegant and a modern day princess! Her sister Pippa looked absolutely gorgeous, also. How do the Middleton ladies (Mother Middleton included) keep such lovely little figures?!

And the "royal kiss" that everyone waited for! It was pretty adorbz, it looked like he said "Shall we kiss?" before giving his new wife a quick peck on the lips. How sweet.

Welp... I guess that's one prince down. Not to worry, there's still one left. Now where is that Prince Harry...
